Broad expertise

Helping Individuals Who Have Suffered a Personal Injury, Not Companies
As Scotland's largest personal injury firm, we have helped innocent victims involved in some of the country's most devastating tragedies over the last few decades, such as the Lockerbie disaster and the Piper Alpha explosion. We've also helped the families of victims in the sinking of the Flying Phantom on the River Clyde, the Stockline Plastics factory explosion, and the helicopter crash at the Clutha pub.
We provide the same care and dedication to every individual who has suffered a personal injury caused by another party, no matter the scale of the incident. We're here to stand up for the victims, so we don't believe that any case is too small. We know the impact that sustaining an injury can have on a person, potentially causing great distress for them and their family. Although we know that receiving compensation will not solve all the problems associated with your injury or illness, it can help make moving forward easier.
Commitment to Changing the Law
The ethos of Thompsons is to do all we can to benefit our clients, challenging the law whenever it is unfair to their needs and campaigning to change legislation when necessary for health and safety regulations to improve. We have been involved in a number of landmark cases that have seen us help reach these goals. Our expertise and passion for helping others have been recognised by major charities.
Thompsons' track record speaks for itself. Our accident solicitors win more than nine out of ten of the cases we take to court, and we recover over £1 million every week for our clients. More compensation with Thompsons is our goal. If you are looking for an expert accident solicitor, look no further.
No Win No Fee Solicitors Who Will Support You
We don't want the thought of incurring costly legal fees to deter our clients from seeking justice. We firmly believe that compensation is there to do exactly that: compensate the victim. We want the sum awarded to you to be as beneficial as possible, which is why we strive to keep our fees at a minimum. For the majority of claims made with Thompsons, we operate on a No Win No Fee basis, and we guarantee that when we say No Win No Fee, that is exactly what we mean. In the event that your claim is unsuccessful, you won’t have to pay a penny, and unlike some other solicitors or claims companies, we have no hidden costs. We aim to keep the compensation claims process simple and hassle-free and to settle your claim in the quickest time possible for the maximum possible compensation.
Insurance Companies and Compensation
Let's face it, insurance companies do not like paying out compensation claims. Insurance premiums are always rising, and there are constant stories in the press from insurance companies complaining about the number of claims they face each year. It stands to reason that the less they pay out, the higher their profits will be, and therefore, the happier their shareholders. Insurers will do everything in their power to avoid paying out in compensation cases and, when they have no choice, to make sure that the payment is at the absolute minimum level.
Don't Settle for Less Compensation Than You Deserve
Some insurers will go to incredible lengths to keep the compensation cases they pay to the bare minimum. Some companies employ “mobile claims handlers” to turn up at your door unannounced, within hours of an accident, offering you a cheque for full and final settlement of the claim. While that may sound brilliant at first, the cheques are often for meagre amounts – a few hundred pounds – and almost always significantly below the true value of the case. Insurers do not turn up with their cheque books within a few hours of an accident because they are generous; they do it because they want to get to the person who has suffered the injury before they even consider making a claim for compensation and certainly before they go anywhere near a solicitor. Insurers do not like personal injury solicitors and especially do not like expert firms who know what they are doing.
Dedication, Knowledge, and Strength Always Pay Off
When you are involved in an accident, you need an expert solicitor who has gained all the essential experience necessary to ensure you get the proper level of compensation to which you are entitled. More importantly, you need a solicitor who is on your side. This is where Thompsons Solicitors come in. We understand that getting the best possible outcome on your case not only takes determination and persistence but also knowledge, dedication, and strength. The insurance companies will fight, so you need a lawyer on your side who will fight harder.
All too often, we find that an insurer’s first offer is far too low. We have to push hard and sometimes that means raising a court action and pursuing matters as vigorously as possible – although you can often make an insurer see sense with simply the threat of raising a court action. Very regularly, the sum we finally secure for our clients is significantly more than the original offer, and we have many cases where the final damages are even double or three times the original offer.

Accident Lawyers Case Study
Thompsons secured £12,500 for Mr. Alan Brown following an accident during his employment with Co-Operative Group Limited. As a warehouse operative, Mr. Brown was attending the water cooler when a colleague lost control of a picking truck, which crashed into him. Mr. Brown sustained a severe crush injury to his leg and was also affected by a depressive illness following the accident. A Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Consultant Psychiatrist confirmed the injuries caused by the accident.
Mr. Brown’s employers did not respond to calls for an out-of-court settlement, so proceedings were raised at the Court of Session. Mr. Brown rejected an initial offer but settled for £12,500.
Seonaid Brophy, who handled Mr. Brown’s claim, said, "Mr. Brown suffered both physical and psychological injuries following this avoidable workplace accident. I am pleased that his claim was concluded and he received the compensation that he was due."
