Thompsons Solicitors make noise about tram tracks

Thompsons Solicitors are already dealing with almost 100 claims regarding cycling accidents in Edinburgh, all of which are directly linked to the tram tracks, and our personal injury solicitors believe City of Edinburgh Council could be facing a compensation bill which is going to run to hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Partner Patrick McGuire has even told BBC Scotland that he believes unless the council address the issue it is "almost inevitable", in his opinion, that there will at some point be "a death on the streets of our capital city" as a result of cyclists becoming caught in the tram tracks.

Compensation claims already being handled by Thompsons solicitors involve cyclists who have lost finger tips, suffered broken bones and have had their teeth shattered after coming off their bicycles.

A freedom of information request requiring the council to elucidate on details of tram line accidents is underway. Bike riders have informed the BBC that despite having reported cycling accidents their details do not appear on official records.

Campaigners believe this means the scale of the accident risk could be greater than the council's statistics suggest.

Patrick McGuire said, "Edinburgh city council have a statutory duty under the Road Traffic Act to ensure the safety of cyclists, to ensure the lessons from previous accidents are learned, and to make changes.

"They have utterly failed in that. Cyclists are doing absolutely the right thing in coming forward and demanding these changes."
