It is appalling to read about the disgraceful practice of blacklisting within the construction industry. I agree wholeheartedly that the practice of blacklisting is morally indefensible and more must be done to make sure this practice is eliminated.
The Scottish Affairs Committee has revealed that thousands of workers were placed on a blacklist set up by major construction firms. Many of those who were placed on the blacklist were honest workers who had raised legitimate concerns over health and safety or were simply members of a trade union.
It is disgusting to think that with no explanation or reason workers who raised genuine concerns over health and safety or who were simply members of a trade union were denied employment and suffered financial hardship as a result of the blacklist.
Those individuals who were placed on the blacklist ought to be notified so they can seek the redress they deserve. The construction companies involved must be held accountable for their behaviour.
