I think it is good news that, following compensation payments made to thalidomide survivors in England, the Scottish Government is finding itself under increasing pressure to compensate Scotland’s 55 thalidomiders.
In January the Westminster government announced a £20 million compensation settlement for those born with deformities after their mothers took the morning sickness drug Distaval during pregnancy.
The Scottish Government has so far been silent as to whether a similar regime will be implemented through the Thalidomide Trust for Scottish victims.
Scottish Labour MSP Jackie Baillie is in the process of placing a motion in the Scottish Parliament calling for a similar compensation pilot to be introduced north of the border.
Jackie Baillie has previously been instrumental in helping Thompsons successfully campaign for a public inquiry into the C-Diff hospital outbreaks.
Hopefully she can enjoy further success for these long suffering victims.
