A boy who sustained serious life-altering injuries after being involved in a road traffic accident when he was a baby has been awarded £3 million in personal injury compensation.
12 year old Ben Eeles, Brightlingsea, sustained severe head injuries in September 1998, when a coach collided with the car he was a passenger in on the A12 in Norfolk.
Although Ben enjoys general good health and is able to socialise with friends and exercise, he sustained severe brain injuries meaning he suffers from language, concentration problems and has impaired motor skills. He will need care and supervision for the rest of his life and the compensation award will allow him to be provided for.
Ben and his family are currently supported by his father Graham’s income as a self-employed boat builder; his mother had to leave her £100,000 a-year company director position to be able to care for Ben following the road traffic accident.
The owners of the coach, Cobham Hire Services, had already admitted liability for the road traffic accident . The exact amount of compensation Ben will receive is being kept confidential but at earlier court hearings his legal team said the amount would be at least £3.25million. He will receive a large lump sum and annual payments to cover the costs of his care.
