Professional Journey

What inspired you to pursue a career at Thompsons?

Their reputation for dedication to employees and career growth opportunities. Over the years, I have taken on many roles at Thompsons, and each one has been rewarding, providing meaningful and valuable experience, with client care always at the forefront.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love working with people and ensuring they feel supported, not just in their career growth but also in their overall wellbeing. I also enjoy recruitment, finding the right people for the right roles and helping them take the next step in their careers.

Memorable Moments

Can you share a favourite memory or achievement from your time here?

One of my achievements has been launching a dedicated intranet page focused on mental health and wellbeing. As a trained Mental Health Officer, I believe good mental health is a key part of employee success, and I do my best to make that a priority. Seeing the positive feedback from colleagues and knowing that the resources and support available have made a real difference has been incredibly rewarding. It is great to be part of a workplace that values wellbeing and to contribute to creating a more open and supportive environment.

Is there a project or case you’re particularly proud of?

I am particularly proud of being part of the first team at Thompsons to support survivors of sexual, physical, and mental abuse, where I had the opportunity to assist clients through significant legal changes. It was incredibly rewarding to play a role in helping survivors navigate the legal process and access the justice they deserved. Being part of a team that made a real difference in people’s lives during such a pivotal time was both a privilege and a career highlight.

Let’s Get to Know You – Personal & Fun Questions

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy supporting my son's football team – Benburb FC 2010. Whether it's cheering from the sidelines or getting involved with the team, I love being part of his journey and seeing the passion and teamwork that football brings. It's a great way to spend time with family and be part of the local community.

What do you think makes the Thompsons team special?

What makes the Thompsons team special is, without a doubt, the people. The support, dedication, and strong sense of teamwork across the firm create a real feeling of belonging, and many of us form lifelong friendships along the way. This is reflected in the number of long-serving employees we have - people stay because they genuinely care about the work we do and the team we are part of.

What motivates you to do your best at work?

Knowing that the success of Thompsons and my colleagues is something I genuinely care about. Being part of a firm that is dedicated to making a difference drives me to give my all every day. Seeing the impact of our work and supporting those around me makes it all the more rewarding.

Favourite book, movie, or TV show?

My favourite movies are The Lord of the Rings trilogy - I never get tired of watching them. I do love my TV shows, especially Call the Midwife and Home & Away.

What advice would you give to someone starting at Thompsons?

Take the time to get to know your colleagues, both within your team and beyond. It is easy to do now with our handy breakout areas - lunchtime is a great chance to chat and connect. I would also recommend coming along to our social events, where you can meet colleagues from other offices and feel part of the wider team. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to reach out to your supervisor or HR if you are ever unsure about anything – we have all been there, and everyone is happy to help!

Any tips for maintaining a good work-life balance?

A good work-life balance is all about setting boundaries. If you are hybrid working, try to have a separate area away from your main living space so you can fully switch off when you shut your laptop. If that is not possible, packing everything away at the end of the day can help so work isn’t always in sight. For those who, like me, mainly work in the office (which I prefer!), making the most of your breaks is important - step away from your desk, get some fresh air, or have a chat with colleagues. It is also helpful to set a clear end to your workday, so you are not always checking emails after hours!

What’s your dream travel destination?

My dream travel destination would have to be Oktoberfest in Germany. The atmosphere, the culture, and, of course, the beer all make it something I would love to experience. It seems like the perfect mix of tradition, celebration, and a great time with friends!

What are you watching on Netflix right now?

I am a big fan of murder mysteries and true crime documentaries – they are my go-to on Netflix. Right now, I am also watching Season 2 of The Night Agent, but I have to admit, I’m not finding it as good as the first one.

What’s your most-played song on Spotify?

TikTok viral songs always get stuck in my head, so my most-played tracks are probably Messy by Lola Young or That's So True by Gracie Abrams.

What’s your go-to meal deal?

Prawn mayo sandwich, Cheese & Onion crinkle crisps, and a Dr Pepper. Can’t beat it!

Thanks for sharing your story, Pamela!
