I was sad when I heard the tragic news that an oil worker had suffered fatal injuries and died after falling overboard from a North Sea oil platform.
It has been reported that the 37 year old oil worker was working on ropes on a platform operated by Shell named Brent Charlie when he fell in to the water. A Norwegian rescue helicopter was sent to the scene and the oil worker was pulled from the water however, the worker tragically died soon thereafter.
My friends at Thompsons have dealt with many compensation claims for oil workers who have been injured during the course of their employment. In 2010 the Health and Safety Executive issued the offshore oil and gas industry with a safety warning due to a big rise in major injuries being reported. I sincerely hope that the industry took heed of those warnings. The lives and safety of the oil workers who make the big profits for the oil companies should always be the industries utmost concern.
