On 24 October 2018 our client, Mr Raeside, a sixty-year-old maintenance technician for NHS Lanarkshire, was behind the wheel of his work vehicle, a Volkswagen Transporter, when it was rear-shunted by a Nissan Duke SUV.
The background
Mr Raeside was performing work duties for his employer when the accident occurred. Our client had been stationary in his van at traffic lights. The driver of the Nissan admitted liability immediately; she had failed to stop for a red light.
After developing pain and discomfort following the accident, Mr Raeside was diagnosed with soft tissue injuries to his neck, back and shoulders – indicative of whiplash. He was then referred to Thompsons Solicitors by his Trade Union, Unite.
The settlement
Medical experts confirmed the existence of Mr Raeside's whiplash injury and compensation was sought on this basis. The injury took four months to heal and the pursuer was awarded £2,200 road traffic accident compensation for the pain, injury and the losses it caused. Settlement was finalised on 20 June 2019.
