A man has received a compensation payment after having fingers severed in a workplace accident. Wesley Dickinson had been working as a machine operator in a factory owned by Centriforce Products at the time of the accident.
The accident occurred in May 2008. Mr Dickinson had been working on a plastic cutting machine which had become jammed. He thought that one of his colleagues had turned off the guillotine and so reached in to unblock it. Unfortunately the guillotine came down at this moment, severing four of his fingers.
He was taken to hospital immediately where they were able to reattach two of his fingers. The other two could not be saved. As a result of this he will not be able to undertake manual work for some time.
He sought compensation on the ground that his employer had breached health and safetyregulations by allowing him to have access to dangerous machine parts. His employer agreed to settle his compensation claim and he received £8,000.
