A teacher who was attacked by a pupil, on several occasions, at the school were she taught has sued her employers and been awarded compensation.

The pupil punched, kicked, scratched and pulled the hair of Teresa McCarthy on a number of occasions and caused her to suffer a lack of confidence and nightmares.

As a result of the attacks Mrs McCarthy left the teaching and retrained as a nurse.

Mrs McCarthy claimed compensation for the injuries and losses she experienced as a result of the attacks and was awarded £71,158 compensation.

Her employers were told to pay her £10,000 compensation for the pain and suffering she experienced and £61,158 compensation for wage loss.
