A worker at the Eshiels Community Recycling Depot was injured after an accident at work. The accident at work took place on 8 June at the recycling centre just south of Peebles, which is run by the Scottish Borders Council.
James Pearson, 55, was directing a lorry carrying a skip, when the skip fell from its moorings and trapped him against a steel door. The lorry driver was able to lift the skip off Mr Pearson using the lorry, but by this time Mr Pearson had already sustained serious chest injuries. Work colleagues took Mr Pearson to the hospital, as the local ambulance crew were dealing with another life-threatening incident in the area. He was initially taken to the Hay Lodge Hospital in Peebles, but was later transferred to Borders General Hospital.
Mr Pearson broke five ribs and suffered a punctured lung as a result of the accident at work. His personal injuries are not reported as life-threatening.
The accident at work occurred only eight days after the £4 million facility was officially opened by the Scottish Border Council. Scottish Borders Council and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the accident.
