Mr Allan Bickle has recently died from mesothelioma which was caused by exposure to asbestos during his employment. His widow has received a substantial settlement from his former employer.
Mr Bickle had been employed by Filtrona UK Limited. He worked as a turner and his job involved operating machinery involved in the manufacture of cigarettes. While doing this job he was often exposed to asbestos dust. In addition to this, he regularly made washers using a material called Sindanyo which contained asbestos. This process caused clouds of asbestos dust to float up from the material and into the air around him.
Mr Bickle made a compensation claim against his former employer after being diagnosed with mesothelioma. Sadly however, he died before his claim was settled. His former employer at first refused to settle his claim and even denied that Sindanyo contained asbestos. However, after being shown the evidence of this, they conceded that it did. It was then that a settlement was reached and Mr Bickle’s widow, Mrs June Bickle, received a substantial compensation payout.
