Employees who have become ill or seriously disabled as a result of a work related injury are to be given extra help to track down their company’s insurance records.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has unveiled a new consultation document that outlines proposals for creating an Employer’s Liability Tracing Office and an Employer’s Insurance Bureau.

It is thought that these two bodies will assist those with industrial diseases or disabilities so that they can trace the insurance companies and in turn receive compensation for their injuries.

Minister for the DWP said that they wanted to set up a better tracing service for injured employees as very often it is difficult to trace insurance companies, especially when the injuries were sustained a long time ago.  Even where the accident has occurred fairly recently due to the current economic climate, many companies are in administration or liquidation which makes insurance details difficult to trace and sometimes it is very difficult to obtain compensation, even if you are entitled to it.
