A Unite member who was left brain damaged after being knocked from his bike by a car has been awarded £150,000 compensation.

The victim was cycling to work in November 2010 when he was hit by a car causing him to fall from his bike. He suffered head injuries which led to minor brain damage and was forced to give up his job following the accident.    

As a member of his union, the client was entitled to free legal support from Thompsons Solicitors through the union’s legal services benefits. The Unite member said: “I was grateful to have the help and support of Unite following my accident as they helped me through an extremely difficult experience. I was delighted with the outcome and I’m pleased to be in the position now that I can look forwards rather than dwelling on my accident.”

Following the accident the driver of the car was convicted of careless driving with his insurers accepting liability for injuries caused.
