Job Title
Partner responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of Thompsons' employment rights unit.
About David
David has been a specialist Employment Lawyer since 2009.
He was initially drawn to employment law following a period working in Human Resources- where he realised two things: "Firstly, that Human Resources departments usually don’t understand the legal protections in place for their employees; and secondly, that they rarely have the employee’s interests at heart".
This is why David is proud to represent trade unions and their members to successfully navigate the complex world of employment law (and HR departments). Whether it’s a disputed TUPE transfer, arguments around the interpretation of the Working Time Regulations or all-too-common examples of unfair dismissal, David is dedicated to simplifying complex legal issues into practical strategies for use in challenging employers and resolving workplace disputes.
David says, "Thompsons is the only law firm in Scotland dedicated to redressing the balance between employers and employees. As we never work for employers, we have a unique focus and determination to deliver the very best results for employees.
"Working with a fantastic team of likeminded and highly motivated solicitors, I am extremely proud of our record in delivering some of the most progressive and significant changes for working people in Scotland."
Expertise
David has a particular interest in the complexity of TUPE and Working Time cases. These are complex and technical areas of law to which common questions of “fairness” very rarely apply.
He says, "To effectively fight for people’s rights in these areas, our clients need expert advice from dedicated professionals with a detailed understanding of fast moving case law. That is what they get with Thompsons."
